A few weeks ago I read about hypothermia, and how at a certain core body temperature your mind would be so far gone that you "wouldn't recognize your mothers face anymore".

Then I tried to remember my mothers face, and failed.
She died eight years ago, so maybe that's why, but I kept thinking about it and realized that I barely know anything about her.

I know a few artists she liked (because she played their music very loudly) and a food she liked (because she sometimes asked me to get it for her) and that's it.

I don't know what kind of person she was. I don't know what she liked or disliked. I don't know what she thought of me. We lived under the same roof for 16 years, and I have no idea at all what she did all day. I don't know what hobbies she had or what job she worked.

And I don't think she knew any of that about me either.

I can't remember a single time when we had a conversation together. The only words we ever exhanged where practical. Maybe I needed a signature for school, or she needed me to get something.
But I never asked her what she was doing or how she was feeling. And she didn't ask me.
I never shared any news with her and she never showed interest.

It never felt like we were a family living together, and more like roommates that lived together simply to split rent.

I have no emotional connection to her. I felt nothing when she died, and I don't miss her now either. I just feel so bad about what could have been.
