UK Residents at Risk of Sight Loss: New Clinical Trial Offers Hope

London, UK – Are you a UK resident struggling with sight loss or at risk of losing your vision? A groundbreaking clinical trial is now open for recruitment, offering a new hope for those affected by the condition.

What is the trial about?

The trial, led by a team of renowned ophthalmologists and researchers at the University of Oxford, aims to develop a revolutionary new treatment for age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the leading cause of sight loss in the UK.

What is age-related macular degeneration (AMD)?

AMD is a condition that affects the macula, the part of the retina responsible for central vision. It is characterized by the growth of abnormal blood vessels beneath the retina, leading to vision loss and blindness.

Who is eligible for the trial?

The trial is open to UK residents aged 50-80 who are at risk of developing AMD or have already been diagnosed with the condition. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the new treatment or a placebo, and will be monitored closely over a period of two years.

What are the benefits of participating in the trial?

By participating in the trial, you will have the opportunity to receive a potentially life-changing treatment, and contribute to the advancement of medical research. You will also receive regular eye exams and monitoring, and will have access to a dedicated team of medical professionals.

What are the potential risks?

As with any clinical trial, there are potential risks involved. These may include eye problems, such as cataracts or retinal detachment, and side effects such as headaches, blurred vision, or eye pain.

How can I participate in the trial?

This is apparently the first ever clinical trial comparing the relative merits of shunts vs stents, and it is at risk of closing due to lack of participants. The criteria are simply 'adults with a diagnosis of IIH at risk of permanent sight loss', there is no mention of stenosis. If you meet these criteria, please do consider this trial.
