Jehovah’s Witnesses Ordered to Pay $48,000 in Court Costs to Crown for Failed Abuse Cases
Wellington, New Zealand – In a major victory for the Crown, the High Court has ruled that the Jehovah’s Witnesses must pay $48,000 in court costs for a string of failed cases brought against the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care.
The Royal Commission, established in 2018, was tasked with investigating the abuse of children and adults in care institutions and residential schools in New Zealand. The Jehovah’s Witnesses had attempted to challenge the Commission’s authority and refuse to cooperate with its investigations, leading to a series of costly court battles.
However, the High Court has now dismissed the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ appeals and ordered them to pay the Crown’s costs of $48,000. This comes after the Commission had already secured significant wins in the courts, including a landmark ruling that it had the power to investigate the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ care institutions.
"This is a significant victory for the Commission and the Crown, and sends a strong message that the authorities will not be deterred from pursuing truth and justice for survivors of abuse," said a spokesperson for the Royal Commission.
The ruling is seen as a major blow to the Jehovah’s Witnesses, who had attempted to use legal challenges to avoid accountability for their role in the abuse scandal. The organization has faced widespread criticism for its handling of abuse allegations and its efforts to silence survivors.
The case highlights the ongoing struggle for justice and accountability in New Zealand’s abuse crisis, which has affected thousands of people across the country.

If Jehovah is backing his organization then on one hand he is behind their new asset management companies in Ireland to make more money but at the same time letting them lose $48,000 here (plus all the other court fines, lost subsidies and settlements around the world).
