OMAHA, Neb. — Kavares Tears took off on a dead-sprint across the outfield grass inside of Charles Schwab Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The Tennessee outfielder throttled down as he approached the wall in right-center and patiently timed his jump before completing a thrilling catch while crashing into the padding.
Tears quickly rose to his feet and rifled the baseball into the infield while letting out a roar. His teammates mobbed him upon his return to the dugout after pulling off the inning-ending catch to help Zander Sechrist complete a scoreless inning to begin his outing.
The catch from Tears sparked a 7-2 win for Tennessee in a rematch with Florida State at the Men’s College World Series. UT led wire-to-wire after taking an early lead in the first inning.
Tennessee advances to the championship series for the first time since 1951 with the win. It’ll play for a national championship this weekend.
Here are our takeaways from Tennessee’s (58-12) win over Florida State (49–17).
These takeaways will continue to be updated throughout postgame.
