Hayden Springer matches course-record 59, takes commanding lead at John Deere Classic

Like Goydos, Springer blistered a rain-softened golf course, playing lift-clean-and-place. Unlike Goydos, who went 8-under on the back, Springer did his damage on the front. His 8-under front tied the 54-year-old tourney’s nine-hole record first set by Fuzzy Zoeller with a streak of eight straight birdies at Oakwood Country Club in 1976 and matched by five others, including Goydos and Sepp Straka en route to a John Deere win last year.
