It’s a repeat of the 2016 Euro finals but can Cristiano Ronaldo crush French dreams once more on the major tournament stage? Eight years ago his Portugal side stunned the hosts in Paris, lifting their first major trophy. There may be no more star-studded clash at Euro 2024 than this game, Ronaldo leading one attack and Kylian Mbappe the other, the dynamic strikers backed up by a big name supporting cast including Bruno Fernandes, Antoine Griezmann and William Saliba.

This afternoon’s winners will meet Spain, who sent hosts Germany crashing out of Euro 2024 thanks to a 119th minute header from Mikel Merino. Julian Nagelsmann’s side had already been facing up to the prospect of a disappointing exit, trailing to Dani Olmo’s strike until the 89th minute of normal time, when Florian Wirtz converted a stylish volley.

Denied a penalty for a possible handball in extra time, Germany then had their hearts broken when Real Sociedad midfielder Merino ghosted into the box to meet a cross from the outstanding Olmo.

Stay tuned for all the action, analysis and highlights from today’s second quarterfinal, can France and Portugal possibly deliver as much drama?
