Four people are dead and three others were hospitalized after a mass shooting overnight at a home in northern Kentucky. The suspected shooter also died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his car afterwards, bringing the total death toll in connection with the incident to five. The suspected shooter has since been identified by police as Chase Garvey, 21, from Florence.Florence police say officers responded to a home on Ridgecrest Drive in Florence, Kentucky, at 2:51 a.m. early Saturday morning after receiving several calls for reports of an active shooter inside the residence. When they arrived, police said they still heard shots being fired. When they got inside the residence, officers said they found seven people suffering from gunshot wounds, four of which were pronounced dead on the scene.Police said that a birthday party was currently going on at the residence of Melissa Parrett, 44, who was throwing the party for her 21 year old son. Parrett was identified as one of the victims who was killed in the shooting.The other victims have been identified as:Shane Miller, 20, from Florencem KyHayden Rybicki, 20, from Elsmere, KyDelaney Eary, 19. Burlington, KyThe other three victims were transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Their conditions are currently listed as critical but stable.Police said that Garvey had fled the scene by motor vehicle by the time officers had arrived.Officers said they quickly located the suspect fleeing near Farmview Drive and US 42 and attempted to pull him over, leading to a pursuit.The pursuit ended on Dale Heimbrock Way near Hicks Pike after the suspect vehicle drove off the road and into a ditch.Officers say they found Garvey had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.Police said that their preliminary investigation indicates that Garvey was not an attendee of the party, and is believed by police to have come to the house with the sole intent of committing a violent attack on the house’s residents.According to court records, Garvey has two prior felony convictions in Kentucky for rape in the 1st degree and sodomy in the 2nd degree, both dating back to 2021. Police confirmed Garvey’s criminal record in their press conference.Florence Police Chief Jeff Mallery appeared emotional throughout the duration of Saturday’s press conference.”We’ve never dealt with this before. We know it’s going on throughout the nation, but this is the first time that we’ve had a mass shooting in Florence,” he said while addressing media.Mallery also said that officers had shown up earlier in the night to the house for a loud noise complaint that was unrelated to the shooting.The Florence Police Department’s investigative and crime scene units responded to the scene to investigate.Police said there is currently no ongoing threat to the public, saying the suspect acted alone.
