TLDR – Weight Loss Meds
Kind of a misleading headline. It’s specifically citing these newer drugs that are being used for weight loss.
That said, BCBS saying competitors aren’t paying for it so why should we is some next level bullshit. I pay for insurance, so it should cover the medication I am prescribed. We don’t pay you to be competitive, we pay for the service of coverage.
I would imagine the healthcare costs of those with sustained obesity are higher without treatment than paying for weight loss treatment. And, as I only had a moment to review the full article, does this mean that those that are obese that use these medications for diabetes now will not have that covered by insurance? That doesn’t seem right, if that is the case.
