Reddit Throttling Controversy Rocks the Online Community
UPDATE 12:45 PM EST: The situation has just taken a dramatic turn, as Reddit has released an official statement acknowledging the issue. The statement reads, "We apologize for the inconvenience and assure our users that we are working diligently to resolve the matter. We understand the gravity of this situation and are committed to finding a solution as soon as possible."
In a shocking revelation, reports are emerging that Reddit, one of the largest social news and discussion websites on the internet, may be throttling its users. This means that the site may be deliberately slowing down or restricting the ability of its users to access certain content, view certain posts, or participate in certain activities.
The controversy has sparked a heated debate among Reddit users, with many calling for an explanation and action from the site’s administrators. Reddit, known for its anonymous and community-driven culture, is now facing a credibility crisis.
The Background
Reddit’s algorithm is designed to surface the most relevant and engaging content to users, using a complex system of sorting, ranking, and filtering. However, users have been complaining about slow load times, difficulty accessing certain subreddits, and inconsistencies in the site’s content recommendation algorithm.
The Concerns
Many users are concerned that the site’s throttling is intentionally aimed at controlling the spread of certain types of content, such as sensitive information, political views, or online discussions that may be considered controversial or divisive.
Others believe that the issue is a result of Reddit’s attempts to monetize its platform, potentially leading to a compromised user experience.
The Investigation
Reddit administrators have promised to investigate the matter and provide a full explanation of what is happening. The company has assured users that they are working hard to resolve the issue and ensure a smooth experience for all users.
What Does This Mean for Reddit?
If the allegations of throttling are confirmed, it could have significant implications for Reddit’s reputation and credibility. The site’s trustworthiness and user confidence could be severely damaged, potentially leading to a decline in user engagement and a loss of traffic.

I have an iPhone(whatever number) on which I use the Reddit app often, sometimes I will use the website on a laptop. Clicking on anything other than a text post on the app, has been a huge pain – doesnt load or i have to go pack and click again (again and again) to get it to load. Recently, the web browser one is the same. These are on different internet networks, and I have no problem using any other apps (google maps, safari, games, etc.) or searching other sites in the same browser. I do not have a premium account or whatever the paid account is called, and considering stuff in the news of Reddit (disallowing 3rd party apps, etc.), is it safe to assume Reddit is purposefully flagging and 'throttling' the experience for non-paying users?

I’ve had similar issues! It’s more likely a glitch or server problem than Reddit intentionally throttling. Try updating the app or clearing cache.
Reddit doesn’t officially throttle non-paying users, but sometimes the app or website might have issues that make it seem like it’s slower or not working well.
Reddit can be quite buggy at times….
I can reply to a post on Reddit it will give me some garbage error and then the reply will show three or four times…
And then there is the “we had problems connecting to Reddit” error.
It seems they are more concerned about the ads showing than actually fixing their shit.
It sure seems that way, doesn’t it? Too much browsing and it starts taking 3-4 seconds to load
