So I have a friend who's abusive on/off again fling of 8 years recently started threatening her with a gun. I finally convinced her to file a report. They searched his house, only found drugs but no gun. She told me today that he called her crying and threatening her to drop the charges. She claims she's dropping the charges because the detective says there isn't enough evidence. I love her and she's my best friend. But this pissed me off. l've always worried about her being around him and now to see she's dropping the charges… Is this a lie that a detective would advise dropping the charges? How likely would a win be without evidence? The man in question has a long record, domestics and selling hard substances. Again I'm really not trying to victim blame so I hope it's not perceived that way, we've been best friends for 15 years but I really do worry that I'll wake up one day and hear horrible news about her. I try to lift her self-esteem, tell her she can do better. I just hate seeing my closest friend being victim to some weak bum of a man.
