Washington DC, USA / Doha, Qatar – November 12, 2022 – Despite a recent lull in attacks, diplomatic efforts to broker a sustainable ceasefire in the Israel-Gaza war appear to be faltering, with international leaders warning against any moves that could undermine the fragile negotiating process.
Speaking to reporters after a series of high-level diplomatic meetings, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned that all parties involved in the conflict must refrain from taking any actions that could jeopardize the chances of a lasting agreement.
"We strongly urge all sides to avoid actions that would exacerbate the situation or undermine the possibilities for a ceasefire. We are doing everything we can to facilitate a peaceful resolution to this conflict," said Blinken, following a round of talks with Palestinian officials in Qatar’s capital.
The Qatari ambassador to Gaza, Muhammad El-Amadi, echoed Blinken’s sentiments, stating that his country "remains committed to supporting Egypt’s ceasefire efforts and will do everything possible to ensure a peaceful solution" to the crisis.
However, fears are growing that the fragile diplomatic process could be derailed by renewed clashes between Israeli military forces and Hamas militants in the besieged Gaza Strip.

LASTING PEACE ELUSIVE AS ISRAEL-GAZA WAR DRAGS ON
As the conflict reaches its 48th day, hopes are dwindling that a lasting ceasefire can be negotiated. Despite a pause in air strikes and militant rocket fire in recent days, the tensions simmering between the two sides remain largely unresolved.
Meanwhile, the humanitarian toll of the war is mounting, with thousands left homeless, injured, or deceased. In Gaza, the electricity crisis deepens, with a severe fuel shortage threatening to plunge the impoverished territory into a protracted blackout.
