Deltarune’s Mysterious Evolution: New Leaks Suggest Strong Similarity to Omori

In a shocking turn of events, insiders claim that at some point, Toriyama’s Deltarune was going to be vastly similar to Omori, the critically-acclaimed psychological horror game. While the official statement from Undertale creator Toby Fox’s team remains unclear, fans of both games are left wondering if this unexpected similarity was a deliberate choice.

Omori, developed by OMOCAT, has gained a huge following for its thought-provoking and unflinching portrayal of mental health issues, dark humor, and abstract storytelling. The game’s eerie atmosphere, complex characters, and non-linear progression have made it a standout in the indie gaming scene.

Deltarune, on the other hand, is an upcoming RPG from renowned game designer and composer, Yoshitaka Toriyama (Chrono Trigger, Blue Dragon, and Dragon Quest). The game boasts a unique battle system, an emotive soundtrack, and a narrative filled with complex characters and moral choices. While both games share some familiar themes, the alleged similarities between the two went unnoticed until now.

Speculation surrounding the connection between Deltarune and Omori’s similarities has sparked a fervent debate among fans and critics, with some claiming that Toriyama aimed to pay homage to OMOCAT’s work, while others believe this could be a deliberate attempt to branch out into new creative territory.

The revelation has piqued the interest of gamers globally, who are eager to learn more about these similarities and how they might impact both games’ overall narratives. As of now, the official statement from either party remains unclear, leaving enthusiasts to ponder the possibilities.

I believe that… The whole setting of Deltarune was once quite similar to Omori. Because of Toby Fox's Tweet:

Original DELTARUNE Concept Art from 2014

I believe that all characters were a lot more similar to Omori characters at first. Susie was softer and stuff. And the setting was a lot more sad (maybe). However I believe that this wasn't pure coincidence not at all. Thing is… Toby Fox and Omocat Do have 1 known thing in common which is Earthbound (Mother Series).

However theres 1 more thing they also MAYBE have in common and it's harder to overlook especially in Deltarune's case.

Varik from Brandish.

I mean… It's not like there's news to anything I'm talking about… Fans were already very well aware of Toby Fox's Earthbound Halloween Hack which features Varik from Brandish no less… Fans were already very very well aware of the similarities between Deltarune and Omori… And fans were very very well aware about the similarities of Kris and Varik…

The fanarts and everything say everything.

Yeah like

I really lost track of my own thoughts after a while. So consider this a compilation of things… "Food for thought" maybe. Discuss this people. Maybe it can be news to some fans who haven't heard of all these things. I managed to put everything together here. But I don't have many conclusions…

My main thoughts right now… Are about how Deltarune and Omori talk about worlds of dreams. I once wanted to write a story based on Project Dream from Rareware.. It was about a world of dreams as well!

Project Dream a cancelled SNES / N64 game.

So yeah I once thought about making a Fancomic of Project Dream where my OC Sadalsuud was going to enjoy adventures of escapism dreaming about being a pirate, that pirate being Edison. Sadalsuud is pretty much my version of a silent protagonist kinda like how Deltarune has Kris and Omori has Omori.

The similarities.

So yeah people. I think you all must be wondering… How the heck did I also want to make a silent protagonist similar to Kris?? The answer is…

I was heavily inspired by Setsuna F Seiei and wanted to make a character like him!

That's right folks.. My inspiration for Sadalsuud are Setsuna and Edison. And Kris really does remind me of Setsuna a lot. So yes Sadalsuud is similar to Kris because Kris is similar to Varik and Setsuna. Because I never finished writing the Project Dream fancomic… When Deltarune first appeared I thought to myself "Oh this is quite similar to what I was writing back then…" Then I saw Toby Fox's Tweet then I was like "Oh he is going through the same thing!? NO WAY!!! :0"…

Then like… I've been thinking about Deltarune fancomics with some OCs I made for the Project Dream fancomic… I even adapted some OCs to Undertale / Deltarune logic. Hope to share them here soon.
