9 News Australia Exclusives: Brisbane’s $6 Billion Mega-Stadium Proposal for the Olympics

In a major development, the Queensland Government has confirmed plans to build a massive new stadium in Brisbane, with estimates suggesting the project could cost a whopping $6 billion. The proposed Olympic Stadium is set to be one of the largest in the world, with a potential seating capacity of over 50,000 people.

According to sources close to the matter, the stadium will be built as part of Brisbane’s bid to host the 2032 Olympics. If successful, the event would be the largest international sporting event to be held in Australia since the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

The proposed stadium will be situated in the suburb of Sleemans, approximately 10 kilometers southeast of the Brisbane CBD. The site is considered ideal due to its proximity to existing infrastructure, including the Gateway Motorway and the Pacific Highway.

The Queensland Government has announced that they will be seeking expressions of interest from private developers to partner with the State on the project. The government will then select a preferred proponent through a competitive tender process.

The proposed Olympic Stadium is expected to have a seating capacity of over 50,000 people, with expandable seating to accommodate up to 100,000 spectators for major events.

The stadium will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including a 360-degree LED lighting system, a retractable roof, and a massive video wall. The complex will also include a hotel, restaurants, bars, and various retail outlets.

The Queensland Government claims that the project will create thousands of jobs, both during construction and after the stadium opens. The project is also expected to bring in significant revenue for the State and regional economy.

The news has sparked widespread excitement among Brisbane locals, with many taking to social media to share their thoughts on the proposal.

"This is the best news I’ve heard all week! A new stadium in Brisbane is exactly what we need," said one user.

"I’m so excited to think about all the events and concerts that will take place at this new stadium," said another.

However, not everyone is impressed with the proposal. Some have raised concerns about the cost of the project, as well as the potential impact on the local environment.

"Six billion dollars is a massive amount of money. I’m worried about where the funds will come from," said one concerned citizen.

"I also worry about the impact on the local flora and fauna. We need to make sure we protect our environment," said another.

The proposed Olympic Stadium is expected to be complete by 2028, with a revised timeline to be confirmed in the coming months.
