Firstly let me state that I know very little about politics, especially American politics (I'm from Perth, Australia)…I'm not making any political statement.

But it's hard to ignore on reddit the seemingly endless news articles or post's that are bias to degrade the man…Now I know he almost certainly has a few cobwebs to clear and maybe a few skeletons in his closet – he's offbeat, not perfect – I get that…but that's what I like about him…

He's funny, confident, entertaining, different, hilariously thick skinned (I mean how does he wake up determined everyday given the gargantuan amount of crap folk throw at him?), and to me he's just downright likeable.

I am sure there are many who disagree with me, and I am also sure many of those people have good points…but then, I have no respect for the kind of people who just hate him because it's popular to hate the guy.

He reminds me of David Brent, the character Ricky Gervais played in the original UK 'The Office'…crazy, obviously flawed…but adorably likeable.

Compare him to Biden…the guy is as boring as stale bread…as much hate as Trump gets, who can deny they would love having him as a dinner guest? It seems to me Trump is exactly what politics needs…someone entertaining, lively, enigmatic, charismatic…not some boring, robotic guy who does and says things exactly how they are expected by the masses.

I love people who go against the tide, against the majority and aren't afraid to speak their mind. Trump has a childlike self-confidence that to me is undeniably likeable.

  1. That may be a good enough argument as to why you like a TV show character. Of course then being entertaining and imperfect and overall likeable is good. But we’re talking about politics, about leading a country, about a whole lot of power. And then being likeable and entertaining is just not good enough. I’d rather have a boring president with the charisma of a piece of bread (I’m German, I know what I’m talking about) who’s competent and has good ideas, values that I agree with than someone who’s likeable and charismatic but that’s it.

  2. >hilariously thick skinned

Holy shit. He’s *driven* by spite. He’s got the *thinnest* skin. Saying he has thick skin is about as wrong as any statement about Trump can be.

    >I have no respect for the kind of people who just hate him because it’s popular to hate the guy.

No one hates him just because it’s “popular.” This is a straw man you created. These people don’t exist.

    >who can deny they would love having him as a dinner guest?

Anyone who wants to have an intelligible conversation?

    >exactly what politics needs…someone entertaining, lively, enigmatic, charismatic

That would be wonderful! I’ll choose competence over charisma, and educated over entertaining, every time, though.

  3. See, you’re from the outside looking in. He’s a charismatic leader, as many aspiring dictators and totalitarianist desire to be…but he is not morally fit or intellectually fit to be the President.

Boring is good. Politics shouldnt be a gameshow or a constant campaign to get people to send you money while occupying the highest office in the country. I’m certain you wouldn’t want Trump as a dinner guest, because who he’s selling you on TV and who he is are very different people which is exactly why he doesn’t work as a President.

He knows how to sell himself. He doesn’t know how to run a country or bring people together, just push them apart.

  4. He a rapist, a pedophile, a convicted criminal, hid top secret documents at Mar Lago and then continued to hide them after he was asked for them back. He’s currently being investigated for selling top secret documents to foreign countries. I can keep going with this list of him being a pos and a terrorist, but I have to start work soon. Kind of weird and gross to admire a man like that, but we both know you’re going to deny everything he is despite all the evidence.

  5. No one hates him because he’s “popular”. That literally makes no sense- if people hated him for that reason he wouldn’t be popular.

He actually was quite popular to Americans for a LONG time, he literally was a tv personality with a hit show and would get invited to everything. His personality worked in show business. It wasn’t until he started to get into politics that a lot of people saw BEHIND the mask and didn’t like what they saw.
