UN General Assembly Sets Stage for Historic Discussion on Article 26: Right to Education
In a landmark development, the United Nations General Assembly has scheduled a crucial discussion on Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which guarantees everyone the right to education. The move is seen as a significant step towards addressing the global education crisis and promoting equity in education.
The Importance of Article 26
Article 26 is a cornerstone of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted in 1948. It declares that "everyone has the right to education" and that "education shall be directed to the full development of the human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms." The article also emphasizes that "the education of the child shall be directed to this end and shall be guaranteed by law."
Current Education Crisis
Despite the significance of Article 26, the global education system is facing numerous challenges. Millions of children around the world are out of school, and many more are at risk of dropping out. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the situation, leading to widespread school closures and disruptions.
What’s at Stake
The discussion on Article 26 is crucial as it will help shape the future of education worldwide. The UN General Assembly is expected to address key issues, including:
- How to ensure equitable access to education, especially for marginalized and disadvantaged groups
- How to address the learning crisis and provide quality education to all
- How to harness technology and innovation to enhance education systems
- How to promote education for sustainable development and human rights
Global Leaders Weigh In
The discussion on Article 26 is attracting attention from global leaders, including the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres. "The right to education is a fundamental human right that requires urgent attention," Guterres said. "We must work together to ensure that every child has access to quality education, regardless of their background or circumstances."

Stay Tuned
Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story as the UN General Assembly prepares for its historic discussion on Article 26. We will bring you the latest news and insights as the world comes together to address the critical issue of education.
We’re having a meeting concerning this tomorrow morning:
“In no event shall the implementation of this Section serve to diminish the overtime opportunities for RPCDs not using the protections of Article 37, Section 1(c) as of September 1st of that year, or alter bid delivery area routes for RPCDs.”
Basically, as it has been explained to me so far, if you are off of the 9.5 list by September 1st then they are not allowed to limit your OT during peak. However, if you are still on the list come Sept. 1st by 5pm the Seasonal Support Drivers would be able to impact your peak OT.
Does anyone have any news or insight into this? I’ll post a link concerning this as well
