Many people kinda relate appearance to gender, if someone wants to be a feminine man they often dont see them fully as a man, same if someone is a more butch type of woman, not a trans thing but a general appearance thing.
But i feel that "gender" is something internal, so it cant be perceived by others unless the appearance matches.
I am coming to realize that I do feel fully female even though i have no interest in feminine mannerisms, feminine attitude, feminine clothes, actually i am more repulsed by that which is why it was so hard to accept myself as a woman, because everywhere i look, tv series, news, video games, EVERYWHERE female representation is this ultra lithe, sensitive, thin hyper feminine ideal, even when a female character escapes the mold they are often still pretty much hyper feminine, full of make up and female clothes, 99% if just conforming to feminine ideal.
I honestly feel upset that female representation is this bad, at least guys get a fat guy every now and then.
Its very hard to find characters to relate to because of that or accept myself as female when what is seen as female in mainstream is nothing like me, but i still do feel female, not even non binary, just purely female.
For people who read the JJK manga Maki would be a good example of a character i found as nice representation, not the early version where she is ultra feminine and insecure, but the more masc version that is seen as "female Toji".
Like you can see that she is clearly female from her face, you arent gonna confuse her for a man, but there's that masculine aura and attitude that feels cool, like that would be a female character i could relate to.
