Typhoon No. 10, "Very Strong" Warning Issued: Japan Braces for "Dangerous Winds and Waves" on August 28, 2024
Japan is bracing for a major storm as Typhoon No. 10 has been upgraded to a "very strong" category, with a special warning issued for "dangerous winds and waves" on August 28, 2024.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the typhoon is expected to bring sustained winds of up to 240 km/h (150 mph) and waves of up to 10 meters (33 feet) to the western coast of Japan, posing a significant threat to life and property.
The JMA has issued a "special warning" for the following areas:
- Okinawa Prefecture
- Fukuoka Prefecture
- Saga Prefecture
- Nagasaki Prefecture
The warning is in effect from 6:00 AM on August 28, 2024, until 6:00 PM the same day.
Residents in affected areas are advised to take immediate action to prepare for the storm, including:
- Stocking up on food, water, and other essential supplies
- Securing outdoor furniture, decorations, and other items that could become projectiles in strong winds
- Evacuating to higher ground or safer areas if ordered to do so by local authorities
- Avoiding travel and staying indoors
The Japanese government has also activated emergency response teams and deployed personnel to affected areas to provide support and assistance.

とても強い台風10号が鹿児島県の南の海を北へ向かってゆっくり進んでいます。気象庁は28日の午後1時、奄美地方以外の鹿児島県に、強い風と高い波に特に気をつけるように「特別警報」を出しました。これは、今まで経験したことがないようなとても危険な台風が来そうなときに、風や波がひどくなる前に気象庁が出す警報です。気象庁は、台風に近い所では、家が壊れるような強い風が吹いたり、高い波で多くの建物などに水が入る危険があると言っています。
特別警報が出ていない、台風から遠い所でも、雨がたくさん降っている所があります。気象庁は、山などが崩れたり、川の水があふれたりする危険があるため、十分気をつけるように言っています。
できるだけ家の外に出ないようにしてください。市や町が出す情報などによく気をつけて、雨や風がひどくなる前に安全な所に避難してください。
