I just got an email yesterday saying I've been removed from Aviate because of an internal audit they did. They updated thier Aviate program guide on the 20th, to say you cannot have more than two 121 failures in the past 5 years. They sent it to the review board who then denied me.

I was in Aviate for 3 years looking foward to my date. Before joining aviate, I did have two 121 failures for initial training back to back (3 years ago) I was resigned, and I started at a new airline 2 months later. Since then I've accumulated 1000 RJ hours and 300 E175 hours and havnt had a fail since then and am looking to upgrade soon. I would've thought the review board would've let me stay in aviate since I've done recurrent checks, Sims, 2 type ratings, and have all these hours without a hiccup. And had letter of rec from an APD examiner who did my type ride at the new airline, and letter of rec from two LCA's.

I thought aviate was the redeeming factor for me to ever get to a legacy (DL/AA/UA) bec of my past record. What do I do now?

  1. This is a copy of the original post body for posterity:

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. If you have any questions, please [contact the mods of this subreddit](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=/r/flying).

  2. Just some perspective: you are at a regional. You are flying turbines. You are not making CFI money. You may actually be putting something into your 401k. Take it from me: there are worse places to hang out waiting for an opportunity. Thank you for sharing and hope it works out for you.

  3. > What do I do now?

You upgrade and eventually become an LCA, sim or ground school instructor. Do everything you possibly can to improve your resume and hope that someone takes a chance on you in a few years.

It sucks, but that’s the reality of your situation. Keep your head down and stay motivated.

  4. So only 2 121 busts?? How many checkride busts total?

I’d say you’re really lucky to be where you’re at now considering the hiring environment. Hopefully give it a lot more time and some resume padding stuff maybe a major will pick you up once hiring resumes.

But yeah you’re one of the 400+ ppl to get the boot

  5. It sucks but two 121 failures is gonna be a red flag anywhere anytime. Keep going, upgrade, become a LCA, attend career fairs, volunteer, union work, anything to distance you from those failures and prove you’ve grown from it.

  6. I think it’s kind of a good thing. Why would it be redeeming when you have back to back failures and asked to leave at another carrier? Like others have said, earn your way back to a major by working in the training dept, or becoming an LCA. The industry is reverting back to the mean, of slightly more competitive minimums.

I am sorry for the false hope it gave you for a couple years, that part is not cool.

  7. Sorry OP

This is why no one should put their full faith in a flow program. They can and will change the parameters multiple times and any time they feel the need.

  8. What was the 3rd 121 failure? You really need to take stock and address why it is you keep failing checkrides. If you have a learning disability or other medical issue than you need to address that first. Beyond that, you need more hours (preferably 121 PIC) and other resume items. Union volunteerism and/or training jobs will help immensely as will additional type ratings. Any leadership type job is a big plus. After upgrading & getting some PiC, I’d strongly consider an ACMI doing Class II/heavy jets/etc.

  9. I was booted from Aviate too from this same audit. I guess even in United’s eyes a 121 failure is a failure no matter how silly the circumstances may have been, and in my case, they were extremely tame. I think it is a shame they don’t look into WHY we failed our checkrides because the FAILURE label doesn’t mean we are bad pilots…but as we have seen time and time again in the 121 world, we are just numbers to them. My advice: Keep your grindset and show them they made a mistake dismissing you.
