New Delhi, [Date]: In a shocking incident, a person has been booked by the Supreme Court for impersonating Chief Justice of India (CJI) D.Y. Chandrachud and asking for financial help. The CJI’s office has filed a complaint with the Delhi Police in this regard.
As per the complaint, the impersonator, who posed as CJI Chandrachud, reached out to a person over phone and introduced himself as the CJI. He allegedly asked the person to send him Rs 500, claiming that it was an "urgent" need.
Details of the incident:
According to sources, the impersonator contacted the person around 10:30 am on [Date]. He introduced himself as CJI Chandrachud and claimed that he needed the money for a "serious medical emergency".
The victim, who has chosen to remain anonymous, was taken aback by the fake CJI’s request and immediately raised an alarm. He alerted the real CJI’s office, who subsequently filed a complaint with the Delhi Police.
Action taken by the police:
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology Act. The Delhi Police has launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the impersonator.
Reactions:
"We take such incidents very seriously. We will leave no stone unturned to catch the culprit and ensure that such incidents do not happen in the future," said a senior police officer.
"The Supreme Court takes pride in upholding the integrity and dignity of the institution. We will not tolerate any attempt to undermine it," added a CJI’s office spokesperson.
