I have a 16 month old, and we’ve limited screen time fairly well until recently. He had none (besides the news or sports being on sometimes) until a year, then just one episode of Sesame Street in the morning while I had my coffee and woke up. The past month has been a bit hectic, though. My mom (who watches him while I work from home) had to go back to our hometown for a minor family emergency for a week and got COVID while she was there, so we had 2.5 weeks where my husband and I were trying to juggle work/watching the baby and he got a LOT more TV than usual. Probably 3-4 hours spread throughout the day, and it’s clearly affecting his behavior.

We decided to cut it cold turkey. It’s easy not to have it on through the day/in the evenings, since he’ll be playing with my mom, helping me cook, hanging out with Dad, etc. Mornings are hard though. My husband leaves for work early and isn’t around to help. Does anyone have specific morning activities for that first hour after wake up that don’t involve TV? I understand I won’t get to drink my coffee in peace, but I’d love to at least be able to change clothes/brush my teeth. I try to just let him play with his toys, and sometimes he will independently, but I’d like to have a special activity set aside for that hour to better make it into a routine, you know?
