Dota 2’s The Internationals Tournament in Crisis: Prize Pool, Hype, and In-Game Ads Under Fire

In a shocking turn of events, the Dota 2 community is reeling as the biggest annual tournament, The Internationals, appears to be losing its luster. The tournament, which was once the crown jewel of the esports calendar, is facing a perfect storm of issues that threaten to derail its future.
Prize Pool in Free Fall
The most significant issue plaguing The Internationals is the drastically reduced prize pool. Compared to previous years, the current prize pool is a mere fraction of what it once was. This significant decrease in financial backing has led to a lack of enthusiasm among top teams and players, making it difficult to attract the best talent.
No Hype, No Fuss
The Internationals’ once-anticipated hype has vanished, replaced by a sense of apathy among fans and players alike. The tournament’s marketing efforts have been lackluster, failing to generate the same level of excitement that was once synonymous with the event.
In-Game Ads a Thing of the Past
Another significant blow to The Internationals is the removal of in-game ads. These ads were a significant source of revenue for the tournament, but their removal has left a significant financial void. The absence of these ads has further eroded the tournament’s appeal, making it difficult to attract sponsors and investors.
The Future of The Internationals Uncertain
As the tournament’s popularity continues to dwindle, questions are being raised about its long-term viability. Will The Internationals be able to recover from this slump, or will it become a relic of the past? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain – the Dota 2 community is eagerly waiting for answers.

I don’t know if it’s a hot take, but IMO International always sucked compared to Worlds. Production difference is was to big, no cinematic trailers, no dedicated hype songs, no popular artists involved. They just throw money at the players and that’s it (not even their money, they take it from their skin sales). And then the whole DOTA 2 community is hyped and cocky because “look how big is our prize pool” like that matters when the tournament production is just ass
