A massive recall has been issued in Canada for hundreds of thousands of Samsung electric ranges due to a potential fire hazard. The recall, announced by Health Canada and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), affects a wide range of Samsung models manufactured between 2012 and 2018.
The recall affects approximately 374,000 electric ranges sold in Canada, as well as an additional 345,000 units sold in the United States. According to the recall notice, the affected appliances have a defect in the door hinges that can cause the range’s door to fall out of alignment, potentially leading to a fire.
"We understand that this recall may cause inconvenience to our customers, and we apologize for the concern it may have caused," said a spokesperson for Samsung Canada. "The safety of our customers is our top priority, and we are taking immediate action to address this issue."
Consumers who own affected Samsung electric ranges are urged to stop using them immediately and contact Samsung to arrange for a free repair. A repair kit will be sent to affected customers, which includes a new door hinge and installation instructions.
This recall is the latest in a series of high-profile product recalls issued by Samsung in recent years. In 2016, the company recalled millions of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphones due to a battery fault that caused some devices to overheat and catch fire.
What to do if you own an affected Samsung electric range:
- Stop using your range immediately to avoid any potential fire hazards.
- Check if your range is affected by visiting Samsung’s recall website or by contacting the company directly.
- Arrange for a free repair by contacting Samsung.
- Follow the installation instructions provided with the repair kit to ensure the door hinge is properly replaced.
How to report an incident:
If you experience any issues with your Samsung electric range or suspect it may be faulty, report the incident to Samsung or contact Health Canada’s Consumer Product Safety Directorate at 1-800-332-7213 or info@healthycanadians.gc.ca.
Stay safe:
Remember to always prioritize your safety and the safety of those around you when using appliances in your home. Be aware of potential hazards and take steps to mitigate them.

I find it interesting that new ranges are more prone for problems like this and yet, my home’s twenty-year old electric range chungs along nicely with only minimal care.
Last month the oven stopped working but all it needed was a simple fix (a new wire) and it was back to its old self. No need for the repair guy, anyone could do it.
Someone near me got a new Samsung stove. I can tell because it shows up as a wifi device I can connect to. No password needed.
As much as Samsung is shit – this recall isn’t as much a defect as it is just really bad design. They aren’t spontaneously busting into flames, the front knobs are being bumped accidentally or turned on by little kids as all the controls are really low compared to most ranges.
From the posts and comments I’ve seen I don’t think people are reading the article.
