Breaking News: CNN Fact-Checker Debunks False Trump Claims from Fox News Town Hall
In a scathing rebuke of the former President’s remarks, CNN Fact-Checker Daniel Dale has taken to Twitter to debunk several false claims made by Donald Trump during a Fox News town hall event.
CLAIM 1: Trump falsely claims he "built" the economy
Dale notes that the economy was already recovering from the 2008 recession when Trump took office, and that his administration’s policies had limited impact on the recovery. "Trump didn’t build the economy, he just got lucky," Dale tweets.
CLAIM 2: Trump falsely claims he "created" thousands of jobs
Dale reveals that while Trump’s administration did create some jobs, the majority of the job growth during his tenure was actually due to factors outside of his control, such as the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy and the passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act under President Obama.
CLAIM 3: Trump falsely claims he "won" the 2020 election
Dale points out that Trump lost the 2020 presidential election to Joe Biden by a margin of over 7 million votes in the popular vote, and that he lost the Electoral College vote by a margin of 306-232.
CLAIM 4: Trump falsely claims he "stopped" a war with Iran
Dale notes that Trump did not actually stop a war with Iran, as no war was imminent. He did, however, pull back from a planned attack on Iran in 2020 after being dissuaded by advisors.
CLAIM 5: Trump falsely claims he "secured" the border
Dale reveals that Trump’s administration did not actually build a wall along the US-Mexico border, and that the number of illegal border crossings decreased due to factors such as improved economic conditions in Mexico and increased enforcement efforts under President Obama.
CNN Fact-Checker Daniel Dale on Twitter:
"I’m not going to fact-check every single thing he said, but I’m going to hit some of the biggest whoppers…Trump didn’t build the economy, he just got lucky. He didn’t create thousands of jobs, that was just the recovery happening. He didn’t win the election, and he didn’t stop a war with Iran. #FakeNews #AlternativeFacts"

>I assert that two claims are being made, both of which are false. The first claim is that Iran did not provide funding to Hamas, Hezbollah, and other terror groups during his presidency. That’s wrong. As his administration acknowledged in 2020, Iran continued funding these terror groups throughout his presidency, although it did reduce funding when it came under sanctions pressure from Trump, according to experts.
>The second claim, which asserts that there was no radical Islamic terror, is also untrue. Islamic extremists committed terror attacks during Trump’s presidency. Throughout his presidency, Trump frequently expressed regret over one particular terror attack. It was the attack that killed eight people on the West Side Highway in New York. The Department of Justice (DOJ) purportedly attacked in support of ISIS. In 2019, an extremist member of the Saudi military attacked a US military facility, resulting in the deaths of three US Navy sailors. The DOJ asserts that a jihadist, a longtime associate of an Al-Qaeda group, carried out the attack.
>Because it didn’t happen, nobody wants to cover it. Vice President Harris needed notes in her interview with Dana Bash. If you’re skeptical, you can look at images, photos, and videos from that interview; there is nothing on the table right in front of her. The only items present on the table are Dana Bash’s notes. You’ll notice those pieces of paper facing Dana Bash, not Vice President Harris. Naturally, Vice President Harris did not receive the questions beforehand.
