Historic £29.5m Partick to Govan Bridge Opens, Awaits Grand Opening Celebrations
Glasgow, Scotland – A brand new £29.5 million bridge connecting the communities of Partick and Govan has officially opened, marking a major milestone in the city’s transportation infrastructure. The bridge is expected to be a significant traffic relief measure, enhancing connectivity and accessibility for commuters.
The 150-meter long, 12-meter wide bridge spans the River Clyde, providing a much-needed link between the West End and the Southside. The project, jointly funded by Glasgow City Council and Transport Scotland, involved a complex construction process, involving the installation of pre-fabricated bridge units, which were then floated into place.
"We’re thrilled to see this impressive project come to fruition," said Councillor Susan Murray, Convener for City Development at Glasgow City Council. "The new bridge will not only ease traffic congestion but also open up new opportunities for social, economic, and recreational development in the area."
The bridge’s design has been carefully crafted to accommodate pedestrian and cyclist traffic, featuring dedicated lanes and shared surface areas. The project’s architects, BDP, have incorporated a sleek and modern aesthetic, making it a striking addition to the city’s skyline.
Celebrations are planned to take place in the coming days, with local community groups, businesses, and politicians invited to join the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Delighted the bridge has finally been built, as Govan seemed to have been abandoned when they built the new transport museum. I remember GalGael building a trebuchet to pelt food at the site as a reminder that although the museum was for everyone, it had turned its back on Govan.
What astounds me is the price, how can a bridge, lovely as it looks cost £29.5 million? I know it’s only the approximate value of a decent footballer, but that just seems excessively expensive for a foot and cycle bridge.
