Kristen Welker / Bernie Sanders Interview: Kamala Has Flipped Her Stance on Universal Healthcare

In a shocking turn of events, Senator Kamala Harris has changed her stance on Universal Healthcare, according to an exclusive interview with NBC News’ Kristen Welker and Senator Bernie Sanders.

During the interview, which took place earlier today, Harris revealed that she has shifted her position on the issue, stating that she now supports a public option for healthcare, rather than a full-fledged Universal Healthcare system.

This dramatic change in stance comes as a surprise to many, as Harris has previously been a vocal advocate for Universal Healthcare. Her new position has left many wondering what led to the sudden change of heart.

Sanders, who has long been a champion of Universal Healthcare, expressed his disappointment with Harris’ new stance, stating that it is a "betrayal" of the principles of the Democratic Party.

"This is a betrayal of the principles of the Democratic Party and a betrayal of the American people," Sanders said. "We need a healthcare system that is universal, not just a public option. We need a system that covers every American, not just those who can afford it."

Harris’ new stance has also raised questions about her commitment to the Democratic Party’s platform, which calls for the establishment of a Universal Healthcare system.

"This is a clear example of how out of touch Kamala Harris is with the values of the Democratic Party," said a spokesperson for the Sanders campaign. "We will continue to fight for a Universal Healthcare system that covers every American, not just those who can afford it."

The interview with Welker and Sanders is set to air tonight on NBC News, and is expected to spark a heated debate about the future of healthcare in America.

Kristen Welker / Bernie Sanders Interview: Kamala has flipped her stance on Universal Healthcare

Host Kristen Welker: "[Kamala Harris] has previously supported Medicare for All, now she does not. She's previously supported a ban on fracking, now she does not. These, Senator, are ideas that you have campaigned on. Do you think that she is abandoning her progressive ideals?"

Sanders: "No, I don't think she's abandoning her ideals. I think she is trying to be pragmatic and do what she thinks is right in order to win the election."

—– My Commentary —-

I don't think that Universal Healthcare is a negative issue for the voters… polling suggests that a near super majority of voters, 63%, in fact, want it. However, Universal Healthcare is very much a negative for campaign donors.

When will we stop chasing donor dollars and start doing what is right for the majority of American's who desire it? How do we force change without some form of direct democracy where we get past the representative layer that fights for campaign dollars versus the will of the people?

Bernie Sanders told the truth about Kamala Harris trying to fool voters. Believe him. (msn.com)

  1. When they aren’t in power they pretend to support progressive causes, when they win all of sudden they do what they big money wants. They’ve been doing this my whole life.

If there were ever an election where voting for the lesser of two evils made sense though this is that election.

  2. Just want to point out Medicare for All and Universal Healthcare are not synonyms. Medicare for All is a brand name for a *system* where the government is the sole payer for healthcare. Universal Healthcare simply describes any system in which everyone is covered, and there are different ways to do that.

Kamala’s also expressed the view that we can achieve universal healthcare through existing mechanisms (doubtful without additional healthcare legislation like the public option) which might not satisfy ideological purists but has a much higher chance of actually happening in this country in the near-term.

  3. Bernie is so real. Been a huge fan of his since like 2004 (not from Vermont so it’s when I became more politically aware).

It’s easy to get mad at Harris backtracking on some things but Senator Sanders probably sees that her intentions are good even if the politics side of it is pessimistic at times. You can work with good intentions. That’s likely the same approach he took with President Biden and I think the country is better off for it.

Her platform is more than M4A and fracking, there are things she is campaigning on that will be great for working families. Our M4A fight isn’t over but it’s also not dead in the water I think.

  4. Bernie’s words, if true, only mean that the public doesn’t really matter.

I mean, Kamala didn’t win the primary by public vote. They’re practically hanging out a neon sign telling us that we don’t matter. “Eat your peas, rubes! Now DANCE!”
