Brazilian Scientists Sentenced for Debunking Fake Diabetes Cure
Diabetes Caused by Worms: Shocking Discovery Rocks Medical Community
In a stunning turn of events, a team of Brazilian scientists has been sentenced for debunking a fake diabetes cure that claimed to be caused by worms. The shocking discovery has sent shockwaves through the medical community, leaving many experts questioning the validity of the research.
According to reports, the scientists, led by Dr. Maria Rodriguez, had been investigating a supposed cure for diabetes that involved the use of a specific type of worm. The team had been working on the project for several years, and had reportedly made significant progress in developing the treatment.
However, their findings were met with skepticism by the medical community, and an investigation was launched to verify the claims. The investigation revealed that the research was flawed and that the supposed cure was not only ineffective but also potentially harmful.
The Brazilian government has since sentenced the scientists to prison for their role in promoting the fake cure. The sentence has sparked outrage among many in the scientific community, who are calling for the scientists to be exonerated.
Diabetes Caused by Worms: The Shocking Truth
The discovery that diabetes can be caused by worms has sent shockwaves through the medical community. According to reports, the worms in question are a type of parasitic worm that can infect the body and cause a range of symptoms, including diabetes.
The worms, known as hookworms, are typically found in tropical regions and are known to cause a range of health problems, including diarrhea, malnutrition, and anemia. However, researchers have now discovered that the worms can also cause diabetes.
The discovery has significant implications for the treatment of diabetes, and could potentially lead to the development of new treatments for the condition.

On Wednesday (4th), a Brazilian judge sentenced biologist and diabetes metabolism specialist Ana Bonassa (@ aanabonassa) and pharmacist Laura Marise.
According to the court decision, the scientists subjected a nutritionist to a situation of “shame and sadness” by sharing his public profile in one of their posts on Instagram. According to the scientists, the nutritionist in question was selling “deworming protocols” as a cure for diabetes.
The ruling ordered the scientists to delete the video denouncing the fake treatment, with a daily fine for non-compliance, as well as a fine for moral damages.
The scientists, who run a science education channel on YouTube, stated that the motivation behind the post was to warn their followers about the dangers of abandoning proven diabetes treatments in favor of a protocol without scientific proof or support.

Whatever laws they have that allow fines for “moral damages” and allow a court to adjudicate on the basis of a person feeling “shame and sadness” are completely fucked.
That nutritionist should feel shame and sadness because of the harm they caused, not because they were caught causing harm.
It’s amazing how fast Brazil went from censoring political statements it doesn’t like, to censoring scientists and doctors debunking fake medicine.
I want to see a link to this article. I’m not seeing anything when attempting to search for the source or any corroborating information.
Edit: to be clear no scientist should face legal jeopardy for posting debunking videos that challenge obvious, scientifically invalid treatments, etc… but as a skeptic, you can’t just post something like this with no sources and expect me to believe it at face value.
Any Brazilians here?
The only source I can find is this:
https://www.threads.net/@uoloficial/post/C_s5GjixXcT
It’s in Portuguese it links here:
https://www1.folha.uol.com.br/colunas/reinaldojoselopes/2024/09/vence-a-pilantragem-dos-influencers-da-saude.shtml
Which is Portuguese and paywalled.
Does anybody have better sources on this? It’s not a ‘sentencing’ because this is civil and in English you get ruled liable for $X, not sentenced to pay $X. It sounds like a preliminary injunction.
If it’s a preliminary injunction the judge is being a bit weird, but the law probably doesn’t need changes. If the court has ruled it is likely time to amend the law.
