WOAH! Alaska Airlines Plane Aborts Takeoff in Nashville to Avoid Hitting Southwest Airlines Aircraft
Updated: 10:45 AM PST, March 16, 2023
Nashville, Tennessee – In a shocking and chaotic scene, an Alaska Airlines plane aborted its takeoff at Nashville International Airport (BNA) earlier today after spotting a Southwest Airlines aircraft on the same runway.
According to eyewitnesses, the Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-900 aircraft, carrying 161 passengers and crew members, was preparing for takeoff from Runway 10L at around 10:15 AM local time when the pilots suddenly hit the brakes and stopped short of the runway’s centerline.
"It was like something out of a movie," said passenger Sarah Johnson. "We were getting ready for takeoff and then suddenly the plane came to a stop. Everyone was in shock. It was a really scary experience."
Airport officials confirmed that the Alaska Airlines plane, flight AS121 from Nashville to Seattle, aborted takeoff due to a possible collision with a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which was being pushed back from the gate on the same runway.
The Southwest Airlines aircraft, flight WN1313 to Houston, was not taking off at the time, but was instead preparing for a departure later in the day.
"We take safety very seriously, and the pilots of Alaska Airlines followed protocol by aborting the takeoff to ensure the safety of everyone on board," said a spokesperson for Alaska Airlines.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is currently investigating the incident, but it appears that no one was injured in the incident.
