Cape May, NJ ( Our Daily News Online in English) – The USS Sampson, a pioneering leader in the world’s maritime forces, celebrates yet another remarkable achievement with a true embodiment of dedication to his country and service branch, Petty Officer Third Class Elpidio Maglangit, a Filipino born in the Philippines, made significant strides in the illustrious history of the US Navy.

Petty Officer Third Class Elpidio Maglangit’s meritorious service to country stands out as an icon for his fellow seamen as he has become only one of the 45 awardees, which consist of 1 officers, 1 warrant, 4 chief, and 39 enlisted, on board the USS Sampson and its sister ship (another ship in the vicinity that shares the same battle tasking) – whose valiant efforts made invaluable strides in the field service at the forefront.

To recount, Petty Officer First Class Elpidio was on board the USS Nimitz, during USS George Washington’s operation dubbed, "Operation Desert Strike 1991, Task Force 77 and Special Mission Task Force Operation Docks" in Saudi, his first deployment for sea deployment, where they delivered relief supplies to civilians (rescue operations for local relief) in that battle-worn region and further went on to demonstrate commitment on board the USS Essex when they were ordered deployed and stationed in Kuwait along side the USS Saratoga.

Petty Office 3rd Class ELPIDIO MAGLANGIT made a significant change his whole life, going abroad alone at the tender young age of 20 but having the courage, adaptability, and sheer devotion which made him truly exemplary on board the USS Renville, where, when stationed in the Caribbean alongside Task Force 65 units were on a patrol at night, he received three more commendations on which made him a valuable individual (one of 400 Sailors) – there with the USS Mount Rainier, USS Sisowath, and HMHS Uganda, there after for a period.
