Just for fun i calculated all the box office numbers for the franchise to see what they would look like today. I thought i would share my findings. I adjusted all the numbers for inflation.

  1. Alien: $610,130,319.45 adjusted for inflation from $108,591,169 in 1979.
  2. Prometheus: $536,707,988.08 adjusted for inflation from $403,354,469 in 2012
  3. Aliens: $411,870,808.59
    adjusted for inflation from
    $131,060,248 in 1986
  4. Alien 3: $358,798,561.90
    adjusted for inflation from
    $159,814,498 in 1992
  5. Alien Romulus: $331,181,343
  6. Alien Resurrection:
    $324,502,289.83
    adjusted for inflation from
    $161,376,069
  7. AVP:
    $295,181,145.71 adjusted for inflation from
    $177,427,090 in 2004
  8. Alien Covenant: $291,269,909.94
    adjusted for inflation from
    $240,892,187 in 2017
  9. AVP: Requiem:
    $199,196,499.47
    adjusted for inflation from
    $130,290,885 in 2007

As i suspected the news articles recently saying Romulus is now #2 in the franchise was obviously only US box office not worldwide. I loved Romulus but when you release a film worldwide you should be using worldwide figures. Disney being Disney.

However i found it fascinating to see just how huge Alien was back in 1979.
