Teamsters Union Opts to Not Endorse Any Presidential Candidate

[Washington D.C.] – In a surprise move, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) has announced that it will not be endorsing any presidential candidate in the upcoming 2024 election.

According to sources within the union, the decision was made after a lengthy and contentious debate among the union’s leadership and membership. The Teamsters, one of the largest and most influential labor unions in the United States, has traditionally been a key player in presidential politics, often using its endorsement to sway voters and influence policy.

However, in a statement released earlier today, Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien said that the union’s leadership has decided to take a different approach this election cycle.

"After careful consideration and discussion, the Teamsters International Executive Board has decided not to endorse any presidential candidate in the 2024 election," O’Brien said. "We believe that this decision reflects the complexity and diversity of our membership, and we are committed to working with all candidates who share our values and are committed to improving the lives of working people."

The decision is seen as a significant shift in the Teamsters’ approach to presidential politics, and is likely to have significant implications for the 2024 election. The union’s decision not to endorse a candidate could potentially influence the decisions of other labor unions and organizations, and could also impact the way that candidates approach labor issues on the campaign trail.

  1. >However, hours before the union was set to announce its highly coveted endorsement on Wednesday, the Teamsters released polling of union members showing a nearly two-to-one preference for former President Donald Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris.

    Bahahaha

  2. Not surprising, since [a majority of its members support Trump over Kamala](https://x.com/Teamsters/status/1836463348269092918).

It’s legitimately disappointing that so many union members who supported Biden before he dropped out are now switching to Trump. If only there was something different about Harris that could explain this…

  3. It says a lot how they flipped support in polling from Biden/Trump to Harris/Trump, I am sure the sex of the current candidate had nothing to do with it /s. Idiots would rather put in a union buster than have a woman president lol.

  4. I have been around truckers all my life…my father drove…my grandfather, myself as well…and I’m here to tell you, truckers are not the sharpest knives in the drawer. I am not saying there aren’t any bright drivers out there, because there are, but ohhh boy…there are many many that are as dumb as fence posts.

  5. Can’t imagine a better poll showing a large amount of people who vote against their own best interests and will complain about their own ill informed choices.
And shame on teamster leadership for not showing up and showing how bad Trump would be for blue collar workers.

  6. They’re not wrong that neither candidate has demonstrated a commitment to always putting working people over big business.

But it’s also idiotic to think Trump will be better for working people than Harris.

  7. The more historic unions have less to do with political affiliation and where they lean politically than who their family knows to get the a job. Traditional unions (teamsters, longshoremen) is just a friends and family scenario where they get more and only extends that far.

  8. How the average Trump voter sounds like to me: “That billionaire that exploited workers and genuinely hates and looks down on the middle class really understands a lower class guy who thinks he’s a middle class guy like me. Also, he’s kinda racist, so, you know…we got at least one thing in common.”
