Title is fairly self-explanatory BUT I'll talk anyways.
I read a comic book series earlier this year called Blasfamous that was like, an urban fantasy about demons and angels trying to amass souls by creating pop stars to get unsuspecting humans as fans, and the comic is good but I really wanted to listen to the songs the characters were singing and I couldn't because, well, they don't exist.
I'm on this sub so obviously I love the flashy aesthetics and intrigue of the world of pop music, but it's actually kind of hard to capture this appeal outside of an audio-visual medium like a film or tv show. I won't bother listing iconic examples (at this point "fake pop star made for the screen" is basically its own sub-genre of music) but if someone were to be asked to name a non-music piece of media about music, they would probably default to one of these.
But has anyone else found any cool media that uses the world of music as a setting for something other than a tv show or movie? A book, comic, podcast, video game, stage show, etc.?
What was it about and what made it so interesting? Did it feel like an accurate representation of pop music and its culture? And would you stan the fake artists it created?
