Date: March 15, 2023

Job Search Horror Stories Unfold: Recruiters and Employers Ghosting Candidates Becomes a Growing Concern

In a shocking turn of events, job seekers around the world are reporting a disturbing trend of being "ghosted" by recruiters and employers during the hiring process. The phenomenon, where candidates are left without any communication or update after an interview or application, has left many feeling frustrated, confused, and demotivated.

The Ghosting Epidemic: A Growing Concern

According to recent surveys, an alarming 76% of job seekers have experienced ghosting at some point during their job search. This staggering statistic suggests that the issue is far more widespread than previously thought.

The Impact of Ghosting on Job Candidates

The consequences of being ghosted can be devastating. Job seekers who are left in the dark are left to wonder if they were not good enough for the job, or if the employer simply lost interest. This can lead to feelings of low self-esteem, anxiety, and decreased confidence in their abilities.

Why Are Recruiters and Employers Ghosting Job Candidates?

The reasons behind this behavior are unclear, but some experts speculate that it may be due to a lack of communication, poor hiring practices, or simply a lack of resources to devote to the hiring process.

Job Seekers Share Their Horror Stories

One job seeker, who wishes to remain anonymous, shared her terrifying experience: "I went on an interview for a job I really wanted, and after that, I never heard from them again. No follow-up, no rejection, nothing. It was like I was invisible."

Breaking News: What’s Being Done to Address the Issue?

In response to the growing concern, several organizations are taking steps to address the issue. The National Association of Resume Writers has launched a campaign to raise awareness about ghosting and provide resources for job seekers. Additionally, some employers are implementing new strategies to improve communication and transparency throughout the hiring process.

A recruiter reached out to me last week for a potential job and an interview was set up last Thursday.

I think it went well. I basically hit all the different requirements they had but I might have come across slightly overconfident.

The manager said she'd get back to me either the next day or the Monday of this week so I eagerly waited for news after the weekend.

On Monday evening, I emailed the recruiter as I had still not heard back from the manager and wanted to know if there were any updates on her end.

Silence.

On Wednesday, I email the recruiter again but to no avail.

I have no idea what could have happened, this is the first time I've come across a situation like this.

Such a shame as I really wanted that job. It was almost perfect for me.
