In a stunning turn of events, a sea lion that was believed to be lifeless has miraculously "come back to life" in a heart-stopping display of marine mammal drama.
The incredible scene unfolded at a popular beach in California, where a group of concerned onlookers had gathered to watch the sea lion’s lifeless body wash up on the shore.
But just as all hope seemed lost, the sea lion suddenly began to stir, its flippers twitching and its eyes flickering open.
"It was like something out of a movie," said eyewitness Sarah Johnson. "We were all thinking it was a goner, but then it just… came back to life. It was amazing."
The dramatic rescue effort was captured on video by a bystander, who filmed the sea lion’s epic fake out as it struggled to free itself from the sand.
"I was just standing there, watching, and then suddenly it’s like, ‘Oh my god, it’s moving!’" said the bystander, who wished to remain anonymous. "I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was like a miracle."
