“Tired” hikers charged after requiring rescue from closed area – News

Pyramid is a long day due to the fire road. It’s irresponsible to disobey the closure but even more so if they can’t even determine if they will be able to finish the hike or not.
I can appreciate that “tired” can also include “fatigued to the point they are in danger”. I’m willing to give some benefit of the doubt there.
I can also appreciate that Pyramid mountain is a 28km total in and out, which is pretty hefty for one day when days are getting shorter fast. It’s challenging and even someone in great shape can overestimate themselves. It’s a failure in planning for sure, but it can happen on occasion even to experienced hikers.
But I have 0 patience for someone hiking in the closed Jasper areas. They are closed for extremely good reasons. Even if this was an extreme emergency, the hikers shouldn’t have been there in the first place.
Hope the fines are large!!
