Fish Farm Removes Tonnes of Dead Salmon Before Visit by MSPs
A Scottish fish farm has been accused of hastily removing tonnes of dead salmon from its site before a visit by Scottish Ministers to inspect the facility. The incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns about the handling of the fish farming industry in the UK.
The fish farm, located on the west coast of Scotland, was scheduled to receive a visit from Scottish Environment Minister, Mairi Gougeon, and other MSPs yesterday. However, when inspectors arrived, they were greeted with a stark contrast between the farm’s reported excellent health and the reality.
"It was like a biohazard," said an anonymous source who wished to remain anonymous. "Tonnes of dead and decomposing salmon were scattered throughout the farm. It was clear that the farm was trying to cover something up."
The Scottish Government has launched an investigation into the matter, with officials inspecting the site and taking samples of the dead fish. The farm’s license has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
"This is a shocking development and a clear breach of the rules," said the Scottish Environment Minister. "We will not tolerate the mistreatment of fish in Scotland and will take appropriate action to ensure that such incidents do not happen in the future."
The Scottish Salmon Producers Organisation, which represents the majority of Scotland’s fish farms, has issued a statement apologizing for the incident.
"We apologize for the unacceptably high levels of mortality at this farm. We are working closely with the Scottish Government to resolve the issue and ensure the highest standards of fish health and welfare are maintained at all times."
