What are post flairs?

Post flairs are customizable icons or labels that can be added to posts to provide instant context and categorization. This feature allows users to quickly identify the type of content they’re reading, making it easier to find and engage with relevant topics.

How do post flairs work?

With post flairs, users can choose from a variety of pre-designed options or create their own custom labels. These labels can be applied to individual posts or entire categories, allowing users to curate content that resonates with their interests.

What benefits do post flairs bring?

  1. Improved discoverability: Post flairs make it easy for users to find relevant content, reducing the noise and increasing the signal-to-noise ratio.
  2. Enhanced user experience: With post flairs, users can quickly identify the type of content they’re reading, streamlining their online experience.
  3. Increased engagement: By providing instant context, post flairs encourage users to engage more actively with content, fostering a sense of community and collaboration.

What does this mean for our users?

This update means that our users will have an even more personalized and enjoyable online experience. With post flairs, they can:

  1. Quickly find relevant content: With post flairs, users can identify topics and categories that interest them, making it easier to discover new content.

This isn't new information, as I'm sure you've all seen the new post flairs in the subreddit over the past week or two. But now that they've been around for a bit, we'd like to hear what you all think of them, and if you have any suggestions for improvement.

Here's the full list of flairs currently available:

Post flairs

If you're posting from the reddit app, and you don't see the flair that would apply to your post, please tap on "View all flair" to see the full list. You can also change the flair after you've posted if you chose the wrong one.

It's our hope that these will make it easier to filter for posts you're interested in, or avoid posts on topics that don't interest you.

Right now, post flairs are optional to give everyone a chance to get used to them. Their use will be mandatory as of Monday, October 7, 2024. In the meantime, we'd like to hear any feedback you might have.

Is there something you think we should add? Are any of them too broad, or too specific? Would you prefer that they be placed at the front of the post (to the left of the post title) or do you like them at the end (to the right of the post title)? Let us know what you think!

We've also considered adding optional user flairs. Maybe for general areas/neighbourhoods. Thoughts and suggestions on that would be very welcome.
