I am a new player, started like 3 weeks ago just as the new season started and I feel like I need some tips and tricks.
-Should I join an alliance? I keep getting news about …bounties, I wanna say? A thing I haven't seen yet in game, and I guess it's alliance-based?
-Is "leveling up" a good thing or should I wait? As I understood leveling up – leveling up cards. I am like level…300-400 or something, and I understood I unlock new feature at level 500 (spotlight keys which I guess i'll ask about once i turn level 500)
-I understood the gold offers are going to leave soon, should I buy gold? What is gold good for in this game? What do you guys spend money on? Is everything in game cosmetics?
-Speaking of…. I just unlocked borders…what are they good for? Is it just whatever I like best personally? I don't think i understand this fully lol. And I am not quite sure if i understand what "splits" are. Is that something that happens with "custom" cards? What are custom cards, do they only unlock once card is at infinity level? That's how I understand this?
-Whenever I play, it seems that I play people with similar decks. Is there a gain in me not playing with the "starter" decks (I play Odin "on reveal" deck the game made for me, and sometimes the Carnage deck the game made for me), and it seems to be going fine for me. What's the point in me grinding hard, finding all the new cards and playing them….against people with similar decks and more experience when I can be playing these decks and face people with same decks? Idk if i understand this fully too lol
-Is the visual aspect always subjective? Like apparently pixel variatnts are bad, but if I like them… i can use variants i like, right?
-Conquest mode seems fun as it gives you the shop thingy. This seems to be super fun for me, it lets you buy things for free. Why is the "real mode" better than this mode? Is it cause waiting time is literal hell or is there more to it?
-And speaking of the "real mode" is rank important? Like do i get extra awards at the end of the season based on where i ended the season?
-I asked about what should I spend gold on but also.. I keep people talking about Arishem, which is apparently a 7 cost card which…can somehow be made to cost 6? It's a card that gives you just a random bunch of cards in hand that you don't own? Should I buy that once it's in store?
-How long does it take for a person to be "in the meta" cause I read posts here and I don't understand all of them haha. Does this happen few months in the game? đ (yeah i know #1 thing is having fun, being too technical is not always the best goal in games)
-Damn this ended up being too long so uh.. idk i might be forgetting something but it feels too long already haha. Thanks in advance, if i have extra questions i'll ask some other time haha. Sorry for not using the main thread but i have like billion questions so i had to make a thread

join an alliance. it’s free reward.
>-Is “leveling up” a good thing or should I wait? As I understood leveling up – leveling up cards. I am like level…300-400 or something, and I understood I unlock new feature at level 500 (spotlight keys which I guess i’ll ask about once i turn level 500)
always level up. never use gold for it.
>-I understood the gold offers are going to leave soon, should I buy gold? What is gold good for in this game? What do you guys spend money on? Is everything in game cosmetics?
if you can afford it, go for it. gold is a premium currency. you use it to buy offers in the shop. free to play players stock up on gold and buy good value gold bundles that cost like 3k, 7k etc that gives good credits/token. others use it to buy variants they like. variants are different art for the same card. I mostly use it to buy credits to upgrade cards (very inefficient way to spend gold, do not recommend)

border and splits are cosmetics only. your base card is just a flat image. when you first upgrade it, it cost 25 credits, which makes the border green all the way up to something called infinity border. when a card reaches infinity border, the upgrade button gets replaced by split button. split just means duplicate of the card starting over with base level but has effects like foil, prism, gold foil, ink etc. you then upgrade that split to infinity and split again and again. until you get a desired effect you want to show off. purely cosmetics. and you can use the custom card feature once a card or it’s variant is taken to infinity once. it’s a feature where you can customize your card appearance.
>-Whenever I play, it seems that I play people with similar decks. some cards are better than others. you use credits to upgrade cards, which gives you progress in collection level track, which unlock rewards. better cards, better chances of winning.
>-Is the visual aspect always subjective? Like apparently pixel variatnts are bad, but if I like them… i can use variants i like, right?
yes. use whatever makes you happy. as an avid pixel variant hater, I would still happily use Pixel Jubilee if I didn’t have Peach momoko variant.
>-Conquest mode seems fun as it gives you the shop thingy. This seems to be super fun for me, it lets you buy things for free. Why is the “real mode” better than this mode? Is it cause waiting time is literal hell or is there more to it?
conquest is another game mode. you play, win medals, buy stuff. buy 9 stuffs to get a free variant (currently Dr. Octupus variant). conquest is also the place where people try out decks as it doesn’t affect their rank.
>-And speaking of the “real mode” is rank important? Like do i get extra awards at the end of the season based on where i ended the season?
Rank is like your indicator of skill. Higher rank generally means better players. the rewards are placed every 10 levels like 40, 50, 60etc and are better than conquest rewards. i prioritise conquest games for alliance missions but you can play whatever you like. highest rank is infinite rank after which you are given a number which goes up and down as you win/lose rank games. lower number means better rank.
>-I asked about what should I spend gold on but also.. I keep people talking about Arishem, which is apparently a 7 cost card which…can somehow be made to cost 6? It’s a card that gives you just a random bunch of cards in hand that you don’t own? Should I buy that once it’s in store?
Arishem is a 7 cost card that leans more towards fun factor than competitiveness. but you can win and hit infinite with it. Arishem best use case is completing Alliance mission and playing a very random deck of cards that your opponent may find hard to read and counter. I bought him with 6k tokens no regrets but your mileage may vary. Just don’t buy any S 1,2,3 and 4 cards with tokens.

Meta means the most popular/effective deck people are using. low CL players have their own pocket META, mostly comprised of Odin reveal, destory and zoo decks. you get new cards and build better decks.

>edit: I just saw an America Chavez black and white card which seems to not be a variant but rather a ‘custom’? Maybe? I don’t really understand custom cards and how can one make them haha
that’s the ink split. there is also gold split where your card background is all gold. custom card only means then players customised the card and used that.
