[Top Stories] Labour MP Rosie Duffield Quits Party Over "Hypocrisy" Concerns with Keir Starmer
In a shock move, Labour MP Rosie Duffield has resigned from the party, citing concerns over the "hypocrisy" of Labour Leader Keir Starmer.
In a statement, Duffield said: "I have come to the conclusion that I can no longer continue to be a member of the Labour Party under the leadership of Sir Keir Starmer."
Duffield, the MP for Canterbury, said she was "deeply troubled" by Starmer’s actions and behavior, which she claimed were a departure from the values and principles of the party.
The MP’s decision is seen as a major blow to the Labour Party, which has been struggling to recover from a series of high-profile resignations in recent months.

FULL STATEMENT BY ROSIE DUFFIELD:
"I have taken the difficult decision to resign from the Labour Party and I am writing to the Labour Party General Secretary today to confirm my decision. This has not been an easy decision for me, but I have come to the conclusion that I can no longer continue to be a member of the Labour Party under the leadership of Sir Keir Starmer.
I have been a Labour MP for nearly nine years and I have been proud to represent the people of Canterbury in Parliament. However, I have come to the conclusion that Sir Keir Starmer’s leadership of the party has departed from the values and principles that I and many others joined the party for.
I am deeply troubled by Sir Keir’s actions and behavior, and I believe that he is guilty of hypocrisy. As a party, we were founded on the principles of fairness, equality, and justice, but I do not believe that these principles are being upheld by our current leadership.
I believe that it is my duty as a Member of Parliament to speak out against any behavior that I believe is unjust or hypocritical. I have tried to have open and honest discussions with Sir Keir and his team, but I have been met with resistance and silence.
I will always be grateful for the experiences and opportunities that I have had as a Labour MP, and I will always cherish the friendships and connections that I have made with colleagues and constituents. However, I can no longer continue to be a member of a party that does not share my values and principles.
I will always stand up for what is right and just, and I will continue to serve the people of Canterbury in Parliament as an independent MP."
REACTION TO DUFFIELD’S DECISION:
The decision has been met with a mixed reaction from politicians and pundits, with some supporting Duffield’s move and others criticizing her decision.
Labour MP and prominent Corbynite, Jeremy Corbyn, tweeted: "Respect to @RosieDuffield for having the courage to speak out against the hypocrisy and erosion of Labour values under Keir Starmer’s leadership. #LabourParty"
However, other Labour MPs have criticized Duffield’s decision, with some calling it a "stab in the back" to the party.
