Breaking News: Powerful 7.2 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes West Coast, US – Latest Updates

A massive 7.2 magnitude earthquake has struck the West Coast of the United States, causing widespread destruction and triggering a tsunami warning. The earthquake, which was felt as far away as Las Vegas, is believed to have occurred at approximately 11:30pm local time and is reported to have affected numerous cities along the West Coast.

Tsunami Warning in Effect

The US Geological Survey (USGS) has confirmed that the quake was a major one, with an epicenter located approximately 120 miles off the coast of Eureka, California. The tsunami warning has been extended to the entire West Coast, from Washington State to California, and is also in effect for Hawaii.

Cascadia Subduction Zone Impacted

The earthquake is believed to have occurred along the Cascadia Subduction Zone, a 700-mile-long fault line that runs from the Vancouver Island to Northern California. This zone is known for its high earthquake risk, and the quake is likely to have triggered significant movement along the fault.

Emergency Services on High Alert

Emergency services are on high alert, with crews and emergency responders in place to assist with evacuation efforts and rescue operations. The Red Cross and other aid organizations are also working to provide support to those affected.

Eyewitness Accounts

"I was sleeping when suddenly everything started shaking. I rushed outside, and the street was littered with broken glass and debris," said Rachel Smith, a resident of Eureka, California.

"It was like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. I was worried it was the end of the world," said James Johnson, a traveler in Los Angeles.

Damage Assessment Ongoing

The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, but initial reports suggest widespread damage to buildings, infrastructure, and roads. There have been reports of buildings collapsing, power lines downed, and trees toppled.

  1. Big quakes are always a risk in Japan, and always unpredictable. Literally no one, not even qualified experts could tell you. Just gotta decide if that’s a risk you’re willing to take living in the area/Japan.

  2. Nobody knows, even the specialist. Earthquakes are not something you can predict, even the mega-warning that was issued a day ago is critized due to the same fact as it is unpredictable. Just be ready for anything.
