Family of Seven Takes Court Action Over Authority’s Refusal to Accept They are Homeless
A desperate family of seven has taken court action against a local authority in Ireland, claiming that they are being refused essential support because the authority refuses to acknowledge them as homeless.
The family, who wish to remain anonymous, has been living in a makeshift camp in a park in Dublin for several months, after being evicted from their previous home due to financial difficulties.
Despite repeated attempts to secure emergency accommodation, the family has been told by the local authority that they are not considered homeless, as they are not sleeping on the streets.
The family’s legal team has now launched a court challenge, arguing that the authority’s stance is "illogical" and "cruel".
"The family is being left to fend for themselves, without access to basic services like food, clothing, and healthcare," said their lawyer. "It’s unacceptable that a family with seven children is being treated in this way."
The family’s case has sparked outrage among homelessness advocates, who are calling for an urgent review of the authority’s policies.
