"Bulls on Parade" Dystopian Evolution, or Just Getting Old?: Rage Against the Machine’s Influential Anthem Faces Uncanny Resemblance to Authoritarian Regimes

DATE: March 15, 2023

Rage Against the Machine fans, rejoice! Or alarm? The iconic band’s unmistakable anthem, "Bulls on Parade," has taken on an eerie, dystopian twist, sparking online debates about the song’s relevance, inspiration, and possible connections to authoritarian regimes.

The Observation

In a recent social media posts, users have been sharing illustrations and memes depicting a futuristic metropolis with towering skyscrapers and hordes of riot police encircling a city square – eerily reminiscent of protests and uprisings against fascist governments. The image, eerily, mirrors the song’s lyrics, lyrics that speak to the struggle of rebellious spirits against oppressive forces.

"While ‘Bulls on Parade’ is undeniably an anthem born from the 90s activism, its themes of resistance and defiance reverberate through the ages… or do they?" asks critic and music historian, Dr. Sophie Smith. "As we contemplate the world we live in today – where authoritarianism and surveillance society seem to be gaining ground, you can’t help but wonder if rage’s vision of a dystopian future has foretold our present."

Rage Against the Machine’s singer, Zack de la Rocha, has remained tight-lipped, fueling speculation about their possible involvement in the eerie project. Fans, however, are speculating wildly, from whispers of a new album to collaboration with underground artists.

Anyone else remember listening to this song as a teen, and getting super amped up about fighting the Machine? Back then we knew RATM was referencing the government, and specifically conservatives
. It was amazing and still till this day, one of the most powerful and energizing songs I’ve ever heard.

But I randomly played this old song out of my vintage Apple collection yesterday and it suddenly hit me: these lyrics are now matching up with the liberals agenda!

“Bulls on Parade” suggests that The Machine works through propaganda, to manipulate the masses. Who controls the news and media? The World Economic Forum. They create a “safe” narrative that the major news outlets are allowed to use…

95% of major media is left leaning. Has always seemed odd to me when 50% of the country is conservative.

Only one parties actions, have matched with the lyrics of this song over the last 4 years, as we fall into this dystopia.

Do you think RATM had any idea who The Machine was when they wrote this, or was it just a general sense of extortion, that appealed to angst ridden rebellious teenagers?

  1. Uhhhh… dude, you do realize that you were listening to a **very heavily leftist** band all this time, right? Like, not just “suburban angry teenager”, but actually “funding the Zapatistas leftist” band, right?
