U.S. Speeds Up Asylum Processing at Northern Border to Deter Migrant Crossings
By CBS News, March 10, 2023
In a bid to curb the surge of migrants attempting to cross the U.S.-Canada border, the U.S. government has announced plans to significantly expedite the asylum processing system for individuals arriving at the northern border.
According to a CBS News report, the new measures aim to reduce the average processing time from several months to just 72 hours, allowing for more efficient and swift handling of asylum claims. This move is seen as a critical step in addressing the growing issue of illegal border crossings, which have risen dramatically in recent months.
The initiative is expected to be implemented by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials, who will work closely with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to streamline the asylum application process. This will involve the creation of new processing centers and the deployment of additional personnel to handle the increased workload.
"By speeding up the asylum processing system, we can better manage the surge of migrants arriving at our northern border and ensure that those who are eligible for asylum are provided with a fair and timely hearing," said a CBP spokesperson.
The move has been welcomed by lawmakers and border security experts, who argue that it will help to reduce the risks associated with illegal border crossings, including the spread of diseases and the presence of human traffickers.
"We are committed to ensuring that our borders are secure and that those who are seeking asylum are treated with dignity and respect," said a White House spokesperson.

U.S. to speed up asylum processing at northern border to deter migrant crossings – CBS News
I don’t understand why they would accept any of them, given that they are currently in a safe country (Canada). Likewise, we should do the same: refuse all asylum seekers at the US border. If you’re in a safe country, you don’t need asylum. If they rejected your claim, we should also reject your claim.
The U.S. now has a crisis at the northern border, lol. Illegal migrant crossings have skyrocketed.
