I’ve been taking care of my dad since December. It took months to get him medically stable. As of March, he’s been in AL. He still thinks he’s getting out of there soon.
Meanwhile, most of his organs are in failure (heart, kidneys, liver, pancreas). We’re going to the doctors every week for something, and several of them are talking about how hospice is right around the corner. One of his conditions has a one-year life expectancy, and it’s been ten months since his diagnosis.
But, we FINALLY met with the neurologist yesterday. Dad scored a 17 on the MOCA, which was 3 points lower than his last test in March. It’s been a struggle to get the diagnosis (I think we had to reschedule three times because he kept getting hospitalized). Even though it isn’t great news, it also isn’t unexpected.
They put him on a new medication (ugh, I forget which one), and we’re setting up an MRI to get a better picture of what’s going on.
I feel very detached about it all. Maybe it’s burnout. Maybe it’s because the dad I knew is gone. I don’t know.
But we’re glad we have some answers. At least there’s that.

Very Respectfully asking
What is the reason for all the testing, to confirm something that’s apparent, since there is talk of hospice?
