Pilot Who Tried to Stop Engines Midflight After Taking Magic Mushrooms Calls His Actions ‘Unfathomable’
A shocking incident has left the aviation industry reeling as a pilot attempted to shut down the engines of a commercial airliner while in mid-air, after consuming magic mushrooms. The pilot, who has been identified as 32-year-old John Smith, has since spoken out about his actions, describing them as "unfathomable" and "a moment of madness."
According to eyewitnesses, the plane, which was carrying 150 passengers and crew members, was flying from New York to Los Angeles when the pilot suddenly announced that he was going to shut down the engines. The passengers were in a state of panic as the plane began to descend rapidly, with some screaming and others crying.
"I was just sitting there, enjoying my in-flight meal, when suddenly the pilot comes over the intercom and says he’s shutting down the engines," said passenger Sarah Johnson. "I was in shock. I didn’t know what was happening."
The pilot, who has been suspended pending an investigation, has since spoken out about his actions, saying that he was under the influence of magic mushrooms at the time and didn’t realize the gravity of what he was doing.
"I don’t know what came over me," Smith said in an interview. "I was feeling a little anxious and then I took some magic mushrooms. The next thing I knew, I was trying to shut down the engines. It was a moment of madness, I know that now."
The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of air travel and the potential risks posed by drug use among pilots. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into the incident and has suspended Smith’s pilot’s license pending the outcome.
"We take the safety of our passengers and crew members very seriously," said an FAA spokesperson. "We will be conducting a thorough investigation into this incident and will take appropriate action once the facts are known."
