Speaking for myself, I’ve been making videos within the Chinese YouTube community for a long time. The subjects ranged from pop culture, gaming, to social issues. I made it a point to avoid spreading anything political or offensive.

At first, I thought it was a fluke. I uploaded content discussing the importance of expressing opinions within YouTube’s community. In that content, I clearly stated my thoughts were my own and did not aim to cause controversy.

For the first few channels I created, the content mainly included my thoughts on current affairs within China. Nothing extreme or provoking, just honest, logical opinions. It seemed okay; I had some engaging with my videos, and subscribers seemed to appreciate my sincerity.

  1. They seem to be really efficient at removing newly created channels. I suppose I can file complaints against both YouTube and Google at BBB since I did use one of those removed accounts to donate to some content creators. I doubt it would do anything, but it’s better than nothing.

I should consider myself lucky to be a US citizen, because if I were still in China, it would not just be my channels that were removed, but also myself.
