"Woman who "silently prayed" in abortion clinic buffer zone paid £13,000 by police over arrest**

A devout Christian woman has received a massive £13,000 compensation from police after she was wrongly arrested and imprisoned for "peacefully silently praying" outside an abortion clinic buffer zone.

Rebekah Lampert was held by police for more than seven hours before she was finally charged with breaching the Abortion (Clinic-protective Zones) Bill. However, during a subsequent review of the evidence by Durham Constabulary, the officer’s actions were deemed to be unreasonable and excessive.

Durham Crown Court ruled the arrest to be unlawful and "exceeded the bounds of necessity", leading to Lampert being awarded the substantial payout. During the court case, it was revealed that Lampert was targeted by police after secretly recording officer’s interactions, leading her lawyer to describe her actions as a "clear breach" of civil liberties.

Freedom of Expression Fears

Pro-life supporters have expressed growing concerns that the incident highlights a widening culture of harassment and intimidation, aimed at silencing prayer and evangelism outside reproductive healthcare services.

Pro-Life Movement supporters argue that the case sets a "chilling precedent" and undermines Article 9 of the Human Rights Act 1998, which safeguards freedom of thought, conscience and religion.

Counter-Protest Outside Court As news of the settlement emerged, a group of activists congregated outside the court, brandishing banners denouncing the police handling of the arrest. One counter-protestor from the anti-choice group, "Voices Against Abortion," exclaimed:

"This is yet another attempt to silence our freedom of expression… We will continue to prayerfully occupy these zones to help save precious lives!"

Legal Representatives Speak Out

Lampert’s lawyer has slammed the police behavior as an "abuse of power," accusing them of using disproportionate force. Durham Police’s own statement acknowledged:

"The arresting officer’s behavior fell below the standards expected by us, and the officer has apologised… We will now take necessary steps to ensure this never happens again."

As the world continues to watch this developing story, many experts are warning of increased tension on the streets, as groups from all sides prepare for continued demonstrations in the face of a shrinking public opinion window.
