Well it was written by Solomon and it does describe his love affair with one of his wives. However that seems fairly trivial when you think about it being included in scripture.
Let me present this idea to you from these scriptures.
Isaiah 61
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor;
he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
2 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor,
Does this verse sound familiar? It is what Jesus told the followers of John the Baptist when they asked if He was the one. Farther down in chapter 61 it says this.
10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord;
my soul shall exult in my God,
for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation;
he has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress,
and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
So Isaiah brings in this idea of a bridegroom and the bride. Jesus picks up on this theme.
Matthew 9:15 And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.
Jesus refers to Himself as the bridegroom.
John 3
28 You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ‘I am not the Christ, but I have been sent before him.’ 29 The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete. 30 He must increase, but I must decrease.”
John the Baptist refers to Jesus as the bridegroom. He understands the reference to Isaiah 61.
Paul expounds on this concept and calls it a mystery.
Ephesians 5
25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.\)a\) 28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. So we know that Jesus is the bridegroom and we are the bride. Jesus talks many times about the wedding feast. That will happen when Jesus returns to earth and we are raised from the dead.
So if you read Song of Solomon in that light it will have new and fresh meaning on how intimate, how loving and how passionate Jesus' love is for us.
