I am a 28F who’s been having a very hard time at work for the past few months. I cleared the coveted Chartered Accountancy (CPA equivalent in India) at the age of 21, and have been working a full time job ever since. Also did 3 years of internship at an accounting firm from the age of 18. This is nothing extraordinary as this is the path followed by all CAs here in India.

I worked 5 years in a big four accounting firm, in external audit – needless to say I was burnt out by the end of it. I took a few months off before I started my new role in an Indian IT MNC. The new role came at a stage in life where was going through many news – I had just moved to a new city, was newly married and had to push through the chaos that was my new company. A few months in – I found myself unable to sleep, thinking about work all the time, highly stressed every second of the day and waking up in tears and panic everyday. I had panic attacks almost every alternate day till I started seeing a therapist. Unfortunately I tried a few and though they worked for the first few sessions – something or the other happened and nothing stuck. Though the extent of my panic and anxiety has reduced over the past few months – I still have days where I just cannot get myself to show up at work. I am extremely anxious, scared, panicked about what is to come. Some background about the work I do – it involves managing multiple stakeholders across the business, with 75% of the day involving calls. I find these calls highly stressful as the people I deal with are mostly middle aged egoistic men and almost every conversation involves raised voices and lack of respect.
I do not feel I am thriving at this job (though I have been appreciated in multiple occasions and was recently promoted as well), I hate how I feel when I wake up everyday – the constant dread is unbearable. I don’t know what’s next coz I don’t even think I want to do finance and everything just stresses me out. Idk what I’m looking for here, maybe just someone who has been through this and can let me know how they navigated out of this ?
