Former Inglewood Police Officer Sentenced for Re-Selling Cocaine Taken During Traffic Stops

A former Inglewood police officer has been sentenced to five years in prison for re-selling cocaine that he had seized during traffic stops. The officer, identified as 34-year-old Marcel Williams, was arrested in 2020 and charged with drug trafficking and other offenses.

According to court documents, Williams was arrested after an investigation by the Inglewood Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division found that he had been re-selling cocaine that he had seized during traffic stops. The investigation found that Williams had been taking cocaine from the evidence room and selling it to others.

Williams was fired from the police department in 2020 and charged with drug trafficking, grand theft, and other offenses. He pleaded guilty to the charges in August and was sentenced to five years in prison.

"This is a betrayal of the public’s trust and a breach of the oath that police officers take to serve and protect the community," said Inglewood Police Chief, Mark Fager.

Williams’ lawyer, David Elden, said that his client was struggling with addiction and was in need of help, not prison.

"This is a tragic case of addiction and desperation," Elden said. "Marcel Williams was in a state of crisis and needed help, not prison."

The sentencing comes as the Inglewood Police Department is facing increased scrutiny over allegations of police misconduct and racism.

  1. Gotta give him points for a decent business model. Pull over a driver who has been drinking and offer them some blow? Oh man, you’re shooting fish in a barrel right there.

  2. I had a friend in college that got arrested for having a bong and 3 ounces of weed while driving (he was a dealer in college), but when he went to the court, the judge dismissed the case for “No Evidence”.
