Rohnert Park Man Sentenced to Multiple Life Terms for Sexually Abusing Adopted Children
In a shocking case, a Rohnert Park man has been sentenced to multiple life terms for sexually abusing his adopted children. The man, identified as 48-year-old Michael W. Bargo, was found guilty of 23 counts of sexual abuse, including lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14, and sodomy.
According to court documents, Bargo, who is a father of five, adopted three children, including two girls and a boy, between 2014 and 2018. During that time, he subjected them to physical and emotional abuse, including sexual assault, as part of a pattern of abuse that lasted for several years.
The victims, now adults, came forward in 2020 to report the abuse, and Bargo was arrested and charged. During his trial, the prosecution presented evidence of the abuse, including audio recordings of the victims’ accounts and physical evidence of the abuse.
In a statement, Sonoma County District Attorney Jill Ravitch said, "Michael Bargo’s crimes are a betrayal of the highest order. He preyed on the most vulnerable members of his own family, his adopted children, and inflicted upon them unimaginable suffering and trauma."
Bargo was sentenced to multiple life terms, including life without the possibility of parole for the most serious offenses. He will also serve additional time for other counts of sexual abuse.
REACTING TO THE SENTENCING
"This is a day of justice for the victims of Michael Bargo’s heinous crimes," said District Attorney Ravitch. "I want to acknowledge the bravery and resilience of the victims who came forward to report the abuse. Today’s sentence holds Bargo accountable for his actions and ensures that he will never again have the opportunity to harm anyone else."
